Not to be confused with the little galaxias (west of Melbourne), the dwarf galaxias is found east of Melbourne from the Dandenong region through Western Port to the Gippsland region, and across Bass Strait in Tasmania.
It prefers slow flowing and still, shallow, permanent and temporary freshwater habitats such as swamps, drains and the backwaters of streams and creeks. It is considered an annual species, only living for a short time.
This species eDNA probe is highly specific to dwarf galaxias populations from Melbourne through to Gippsland. Will likely also work on populations in Tasmania.
To detect the species you have selected we can use eDNA water samples. By filling out the form below, you can better understand what's involved in an eDNA project and gain an estimated cost.
