About

Also knows as mosquito fish the Eastern Gambusia was initially introduced into NSW waters sometime during the 1920s because of their reputation for mosquito control. However, we now know that their ability is no greater than that of our small native fish which also feed on insects. Impacting several native species through competition and predation, they have been associated with the decline of abundance of at least 9 Australian native species and a total of 35 fish species worldwide!
