eDNA Scat Kit Instructions
This protocol is designed for scat sample collection using an EnviroDNA eDNA kit. To ensure the best results, familiarise yourself with our instructions before your sampling survey. More information on tips for avoiding contamination and other sampling considerations are found here. Once sampling is complete, return your samples safely to our laboratory for analysis.

Protocol
Step 3 – Prepare swab

Prepare the swab

Open the preservative and pre-wet the swab with the preservation buffer before sampling.
Step 4 – Swab scat

Swab scat lengthways 6-10 times, then break open scat and swab 6-10 times.

Rotate swab so all sides are exposed.
Step 5 – Snap swab to fit

Snap the swab stick to a length that allows it to fit comfortably inside the preservative tube before replacing the cap.
Step 6 - Secure and repeat

Firmly tighten the preservative cap.

Repeat the sampling process if additional replicate samples or swabs are required.
Step 7 – Label samples

Place the samples into the kit.

Fill out the site label, ensuring all details are complete: site, date, and GPS coordinates.
